For London, this has been the year of the hoop. Not only have five interlocking rings been dominating our consciousness throughout the summer, after taking root in the States, hula hooping is now a fast-growing fitness and art form in the capital.
Anybody who managed to watch the rhythmic gymnastics events during the Olympics, in which the girls spin hoops on their feet while in a standing splits position and roll the hoop across their bodies, will have some idea of the possibilities of hooping.
So, with the first ever dedicated hooping festival this weekend, London Hoop Fest in London Fields, now's a good time to find out about local hooping.
Our local class runs at the foot of Muswell Hill.
