Haringey Council consulting to increase fees for local authority childcare

Did you know that Haringey is consulting on a proposal to completely remove the subsidy with effect from April 2017?

This is likely to mean immediate and significant increases in prices for the childcare at those settings. It may mean that it is no longer financially viable to run childcare at some of those settings. It may even mean that the settings themselves become financially unviable as a whole.

Please be aware that the consultation document does not deal with the amount of difference that could be made to the cost of childcare. It is likely to differ from one setting to another but the increases are likely to be significant. There is also no provision in the consultation to continue to subsidise childcare for those less able to pay, or to help protect the settings which provide excellent help for some of our most vulnerable families and children. (The sliding scale suggested would mean that those more able to pay would have to subsidise those less able to pay.)
