Filling the Gap N15 CIC is a community café which offers local people, especially young families, a healthy, affordable alternative to the abundance of fast food outlets that our area has to offer. We operate out of the Salvation Army Hall on Terront Road, N15 and so are able to offer a safe and well located place for people to come and share lunch with their friends and neighbours.
Filling the Gap N15 was born out of local mums identifying a problem, coming together and delivering a practical solution that met ours and a wider need. We, Renee and Kate, are the founders of Filling the Gap N15, a community café which we have set up here in Harringay.
Renee is a life-long Haringey resident and Nutritional Therapist. Kate has lived in the borough for 11 years and is a Secondary and A-Level English Teacher. Both of us have young children who attend our local school and children's centre. Our idea has developed organically, drawing on our experiences as parents, professionals and Haringey residents. We are a demonstration that you can make things happen in your local community by networking with similar grass roots organisations, sharing solutions and volunteers; we will be part of building stronger communities in Harringay.
Although our prices are accessible; £5 buys lunch for an adult and a child, we offer high quality food which is nutritionally balanced and completely delicious. We also serve tea, real coffee, local organic juice, home-made cakes and biscuits. Our side of the borough has few, if any, affordable, family friendly spaces with a healthy eating focus.
Alongside the main offering from the café we are also extending our services to catering, outside events and takeaway lunch options. This enables the café to run as a susutainable concern.
The café is also a platform from which we will run literacy, free tutoring and nutrition sessions and cooking groups, and the success of the café business will also enable us to provide these targeted services to those who could most benefit from them and will enable us to use our professional skills to their best.
Volunteers at the café will benefit from training opportunities, work experience, increased skills, confidence and knowledge of healthy eating.
We have been running a pilot scheme over the spring and summer. There are two weeks left of pilot this Friday 6th July , and next 13th July so please come along and try some delicious food with us .
We are planning a Grand opening event on October 6th after which we will be open every Friday on a permanent basis, but we will keep you posted about this.

Many thanks for letting people know about this. I'm looking at your website!
On 3 July the Council held an Area Forum at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre. Among topics presented was obesity - especially among children. My consciousness duly raised, I glanced with extra interest at the machines selling snacks and drinks in the entrance hall.
And I'm told that neither of Haringey's swimming pools has facilities for recycling those cans and bottles.
I agree there is no joined up thinking, one arm is doing one thing and the other is doing something else , usually counterproductive.
