Speaker: Maya Evans

Tuesday, September 18, at 7pm

At Giuseppe Conlon House, London Catholic Worker

 49 Mattison Road, London,

020 8348 8212

Maya Evans visited Afghanistan last December as part of a Voices for Creative Non-Violence peace delegation, with Nobel Peace Prize Nominee Kathy Kelly. She is coming  to the Catholic Worker to speak about her visit, and life in Afghanistan under the on going military occupation by the USA, UK and others, and the efforts of local groups like ‘Afghan Youth for Peace’ to bring peace to their war torn country.

British peace campaigner Maya Evans became the first person in the UK to be convicted under the Serious Organised Crime and Police Act 2005 for reading out, within 1 km of Parliament Square, the names of soldiers who had been killed in the 2003 Iraq war.  Evans was also arrested at the Labour Party conference in Bournemouth in 2007 for obstruction of the highway.  She has written a book about her anti-war activism entitled “Naming the Dead” and has also been a contributor to The Guardian, The Independent and Peace News.  Please join us to hear her speak about her activism perspectives and experiences.
