Georgi and Svetlana who opened the Delcious Katmi Creperie on Green Lanes yestreday
After reading Michelle's post giving us all the heads up yesterday, I dropped by Harringay's newest restaurant on my way home today and met with our new neighbours.
Husband and wife team Svetlana and Georgi came to the UK from Bulgaria with a passion to share one of the secrets of Bulgarian home cooking.
"We wanted to do something different", Svetlana told me. "In Bulgaria we all grow up with our muumia (that's mum to you and me) making us delicious crepes. You can't find it in London, but it's so delicious and people don't know what they're missing out on".
I didn't have time to stop and try one, but if Michelle's feedback on her sample is anything to go by, it sounds like they're well worth trying.
I may well drop by tomorrow after the Harringay Market Cashmob - in fact I may even take the mob with me!
Delicious Katmi, 649 Green Lanes, Harringay (between Falkland and Fairfax).

The choice looks good and the prices seem quite competitive

Excellent, nice to see some variety I hope it works out for them - I'll certainly be along.
I went along very excited to sample and support our new local creperie, I usually cycle every weekend to Hackney to Creperie du Monde in Chatsworth Road for a fresh juice a decent coffee and a crepe have a look at their menu here; http://creperiedumonde.co.uk/menu. So having one closer to home got me very excited.
I was looking for a nice soya latte and a simple light lemon & sugar Crepe ..... sadly I did not get that.. Lemon & Sugar was not on the menu and they don't offer soya latte. So I thought I'd try a savoury one and I went for cheese. My Crepe was a pancake, it was too thick and stodgy served to me rolled like a sausage on a polystyrene tray, with plastic cutlery and a paper cup for my coffee. While I ate it I endured dance music with a thumping beat that went; Duf..duf..duf.
I'd love to go there and enjoy a nice coffee and crepe with my friends at the weekend, but perhaps I'll wait till they get more environmentally friendly cups and plates in, and change their style of music, and serve more crepe options like the ones suggested in Michelle's post or even simple; lemon & sugar, honey & banana, light cream cheese with Salmon...
The people that run the place are very friendly, the prices are very good, and I'm sure they are just working it all out and in a few weeks, perhaps the place will feel a bit more inviting. I don't want to give up on them, so I will try it again and pop in with a few friends for a breakfast meet up..but I'll give it a month or so to give them chance to settle in.
I hope others have a better experience than me and I look forward to eating great crepe's locally! (fingers crossed)
(lover of good food.... thats why I'm off now to shop at our fantastic Harringay Food Market)
Thats great news that they are open to feedback and are planning on getting plates and cups soon. I will go back to try the Bulgarian hot chocolate soon.
The style of Eastern European pancakes is different. They are thicker.
Thanks for clarifying that Hugh.
Thats great that they have real plates ... I think its time I popped back in to try that hot chocolate..in a real ceramic cup! I was just thinking about them this weekend.. I think Harringay Market would benefit from having a mobile creperie....
After having popped in there recently for lunch, I too can report that their crepes are delicious, particularly the newer options such as the spinach, goats cheese and caramelised onion relish crepe. The couple running Delicious Katmi are incredibly friendly and welcoming, which is why it was a little surprising that it wasn't very busy. I really hope the people of Harringay Online can support this lovely couple in their new venture, which is indeed a welcome addition to the vast myriad of Turkish restaurants on Green Lanes, don't get me wrong I love Turkish food but I also like a bit of variety! My only slightly negative comment is perhaps they could change their dance music to something less intrusive and add some more relaxing and comfortable seating to make it feel even more welcoming on cold rainy days like today.
Took the oldest boy and his mate there yesterday, they loved it. Be warned, the small crepes are huge, they struggled to finish their savoury ones. Really great friendly service. I also had the spinach, goats cheese and onion marmalade crepe - excellent. Good value too. Will keep it in mind for quick cheap family meals and a wee treat from time to time.
