Thanks, Clive, for posting this as public information. I agree with every point made by Alexandra Worrell. I especially agree with her about the threat to Britain by the Far Right. I think that she might also agree with my assessment of the threat posed by the genocidal state of Israel. These are dangerous times for many other reasons. We need to find ways and try to work together politically to tackle the crises faced by our city, our country and the wider world.
I don't think I've met Alex Worrell and I regret that. Regret too that she did not write and circulate her letter widely and well before now.
Alan, I agree with practically all Councillor Worrell's points.
In her listing of disappointments with Kier Starmer's government, I was pleased to see that first in her list, was the watering down and undermining of Labour's climate policies.
At the local level, we see a lack of concern for nature in the repeated hammering of Finsbury Park through commercial exploitation (the local council leader is proud of these deals). This affects residents in three Boroughs.
At the time of the five-year deal with Festival Republic, Alex made a carefully considered submission to the council—it was disregarded of course. She made points under five main headings that I reproduced, beginning here .
And later, posted a two-page statement about another council Event Team client's damage to our park here .
More widely, our local authority lacks meaningful interest in the environment as reflected in their laissez faire transport practice—despite their endless, empty chat.
24 hours after posting, Alex's post on "X" had been viewed more than 47,000 times.
Which suggest it struck a chord.
Oh Alan.... But as ever, please don't panic. No need for a cold shower. A brisk country run should calm you down.
I'm glad quoting a Marxist got you interested, Brian.
The questions for me about anyone writing history include: are they reliable historians? Then, do they write well? Have they something different and challenging to say? I haven't read enough of Tariq Ali's books to make a wide judgment. I was curious though to read a shortened review by Prof Donald Sassoon who had some interesting criticisms. Here's the link if anyone is interested.

As I explained, the legend of a famous war leader Winston Churchill was a tiny memory from my boyhood. A curious boy grew into and stayed a curious man. But in an open free society I guess it's never too late to try reassessing someone famous or not. Or even oneself.
Have you ever read John Berger?
Fairly late in his life - I think - Berger visits Lisbon for the first time and is surprised to recognise his dead mother as she walks towards him. She tells him he seems to be starting his autobiography. She advises him against it. Because he'll make mistakes.
THE Haringey Community Press covered the resignation here.
The HCP mentioned that Cllr Worrell is now the fifth councillor to quit the Labour Party since the last local election in 2022; slightly more accurate would have been to say the fifth Haringey Councillor to quit the Party. There have been similar resignations in other parts of the UK.
However, some other Haringey Labour Councillors have managed for years to Klingon with a vice-like grip …
I'd sure like the see the evidence for each of her stated reasons for resigning. The Hamas casualty figures she cites are bogus. Global warming, the Marxist-Islamists' favourite excuse to consolidate power and punish the electorate with even more taxation, has been abandoned by one of its leading shills for the fraud that it is (although he doesn't put it that way that is what he is saying).
While most everyone in politics is low IQ, this Worrell is standout in this regard: She seems to really believe her own party will do more than give lip service to what she depicts as Reform policies. Instead, she should be reflecting upon what the Uniparty in this nation that she is part of has accomplished creating, a permanent underclass where 2/3rds of the nation takes more from the state than they put into it. That's mission accomplished for a Marxist-Islamist like her.
Mark Michaels, I'd like to present you with some detailed points on your comment above criticising Alex Worrell. Why? Because I am hoping that you turn out to be a reasonable, fair and decent person who deplores as much as I do the angry, sewer that social media threatens to become. And I hope that what you've posted about Alex, and the other remarks you've made, may be the result of an unusually bad morning.
I have never met Alex Worrell. It's possible you know her and that the opinions you express are loosely based on some arguments and disagreements you and she have had. Though even if this is so, such personally abusive remarks as you've made seem not just pointless but destructive of the community ethos of this website.
If you are capable of reflecting on what you have posted, I hope the better angels of your own nature may persuade you to delete it as false or unwise'. Or maybe because it was your failed attempt at "ragebait". To use one of Oxford's new 'smart' words.
If your comment vanishes, I will of course not proceed to post the rebuttal I mentioned.
