Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Residents at Vale Road in N4 call for services (and service charge refunds)

Residents at Vale Road in N4 say that the green space on their estate which is supposed to be maintained by Homes for Haringey has seen no grounds maintenance visits for the last two years.

The grass is overgrown and the grassed area is no longer useable, there is a tree growing up against one of the houses and in front of its windows, the overgrown grass has become a haven for vermin, and it is also a fire risk. Several of the residents are elderly and have asthma, and the overgrown grass causes high pollen counts.

Grounds maintenance is a service-chargeable service which tenants pay for, and the required standard is set out on Homes for Haringey’s website as follows.

“We employ the Council Parks Service to maintain the grounds around your council property. Our maintenance work requires us to:

+maintain and cut the grass all year round (weather permitting)
+maintain shrub beds and rose beds once a year
+cut back any shrubs that are causing an obstruction
+cut privet hedges three time a year and other hedges twice a year”

The residents at Vale Road have contacted Homes for Haringey and the Council several times about this issue, but to no effect.

We have written to Sean McLaughlin, Managing Director of Homes for Haringey, asking him to restore the services to be restored, and refund the service charges for the period that the services were not provided.

Despite promises of a resumption of srvices by Homes for Haringey, nothing at all has happened so far. So we have now written another reminder letter; also mentioning the service charge issue.
