Interesting comment from Paul Loke. My husband’s parents, Arthur and Norah Burt, moved into the house after 1963 with sons Derek and Ron.

I’m a little late to the party here having only just come across this evocative photo of Turnpike Lane in the 1960s. Wanted to add my Grandad, Harold Stewart Foster, spent time mid way up Turnpike Lane at Haringey Passages, as the Lolly Pop Man, during the late 50s / early 60s. He retired from full time employment and enjoyed working early mornings and mid afternoons.

Hi Rowena,

For whatever reason I’ve only just seen your comment.  We lived in 5, Coleraine Road from 1952 to 1963 when as you say the Burt Family bought the house.  Our Families were the best of friends from around 1952 and I went through school and the scouts (77 North London) with both Derek & Ronnie.  Sadly, as always moving away broke that connection and the relationship drifted!  I did go back to the area around the late 90’s and saw both Derek & Ronnie up ladders painting the window frames - we spoke briefly but they were busy painting.  Great memories of those halcyon younger days, I hope you’re all well and enjoying life?

Anyone else think the young woman crossing the road might be Pat Elliot who lived n the house behind her, 56? I knew her well-ish but in common with many others wished to know her better! Her mum and dad were 'on the buses' as we used to say - he a driver and Mrs E a clippie - until sometime in the 60s they left to run a petrol station in Muswell Hill.

My brother used to work in the timber shop.  I spent many a happy hour in the school holidays weighing out nails for customers! :)

I’ve just picked up Rowena’s post from May, so hope that she will eventually pick up this message?  Are Derek & Ronnie still around and do you all still live around the Harringay area?
