Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Frederick Herbert Miller ran the shop in the short terrace of shops, just to the west of the junction with Vale Road. He was there from 1911 to 1920, but I'm not sure when he set up shop or when he left.

Interesting. The 2 glazed pillars with the ornate semi-circular brackets atop, shown here, still survive unchanged at this address. The shop seem to have now been converted into 2 flats. Same with the other shops also.

My parents acquired 230 Hermitage Road in 1962, when it was already trading as the Record Cafe. My mum, Ada, ran it as such for about 35 years before retiring due to ill health. At the time, the parade of shops were all trading but within a few years, they were all converted into accommodation-only dwellings.

Thanks for commenting, Massimo. Do you have any pictures of it in your mum’s day?

Hi Hugh. I will try to dig something out but I doubt it will be as good as the photo you've posted.
