Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Old Post Office, Green Lanes
Thanks to John D for matching this old picture with its present-day location, "Bottom of Mattison, Baldwins is out of frame to the left".
Interesting to note that, what I imagined was an original gas fitting visible, hanging from the centre of the wall of the shop in the middle of the present-day picture, is absent in the older picture.

I see a downpipe that has appeared later and what I take to be a shop sign hanger? And the gas light in the street with the bus stop is also gone.

I think the hanging bracket IS on older pic Hugh. It has a diagonal stay fixed under centre of "MAYS" central wall column coming down at 45' finishing about level with window sills projecting above pavement and appears to be a dish shaped lamp shade fitted at end presumably to illuminate the shop front ? At least that's what I think I can make out.

When I was young the post office was on the corner of Green Lanes and either Warham or Seymour Road. It was next door to Mortimers the leather good shop…

That's the Post Office I remember Christine Yates !! A phone kiosk up Warham at rear side of Post Office with (I seem to recall) folding timber/glass door ?? Press Button A or B and I think you probably got 15 minutes for a threepenny bit ! Found some old Premium Bond stubs the other day issued from there, purchased by our Mum, bless her. And of course Mortimers ! Loved Green Lanes back then.

Yes - as a child I would go in the booth and press the buttons in the hopes of a few Pennie’s sliding f into the tray,whilst mum was at the counter. …and Mortimers sold amazing bags.

Yes Christine Yates and John Shulver remember the post office on corner of Warham and the phone kiosk where we had to go to call anyone as didnt have a home phone in those days.
During the 1950's I was at school in South Harringay with a girl whose family were very poor. The family lived above the Post Office and one day her father came home with a shotgun and killed them all. I have never forgotten that poor girl. Her father must have been so desperate. So sad.
