Could somebody please explain why the roof on the building looks like it's missing in this shot?

This is not how I remember the Arena, albeit in the period twenty-thirty years after this shot was taken.

Was the roof rebuilt at some time?

Since this image is the most common one of the Arena, until I found the other images of the Arena recently, I'd always assumed it had a flat roof. It could be an oddity of the angle at which the photo was taken or perhaps it's been edited (but I don't think so). The other possibility is that Cavendish Foods removed the roof after 1958 to save on maintenance. The guy who's the chair of the Green Lanes traders association hasd been in te area since 1966. He might know whether the roof shaspe had changed by then. (He remembers Green Lanes as it was in your time here). If I see him I'll ask about the roof

No, no.. The Roof stayed the same from the middle of the fifties (when I first remember seeing it) until demolition (see your latest image).

I think the roof may have, for whatevere reason, been airbrushed out of the photo. If you look at the extreme right hand side of the roof... you can see what look like grey clouds.. The remains of the shadow of the roof?

I do think the building looks really smart in this photo.. Worthy of being preserved as a classy Art Deco building. Much better than the "plastic" Disneyland (un-english) stuff that stands on the site now..

Yeah, I think the airbrushing's the most liklely.

I'm very fond of it and think it's a crying shame it was demolished. Ah well.
