    Hugh,
Thanks for the welcome. Presently sweltering under the sun in Australia and will be back on the Ladder in April. Looking forward to getting back and involved with the local community (cycling and pub) and enjoying the mixed blessings of Harringay.

I do hassle them. I overstated, I have a couple. I say when I think we're being nimbys. I say when I think we're being hard on a certain group. I'll hassle again, I think we need them too.
  • Liz

    Nice NavBar, sir.

    I second Liz!

    Hugh,

Given you fantastic photo collection - you might want to up load some images to this site for N4 and N8. Could be a positive promotion for the area to a broader (national) audience.

Hi there, I have ummm professional expertise I guess on engagement - lots of theory, some practical knowledge, but I'm incredibly interested in the use of online technologies to bring together people in a local area - there are some other examples of this kind of work being done both in the UK and in the US - do you want to meet up to discuss? Also - did you send me a message? If so I can't seem to find how to access messages - as opposed to comments...help!

Thanks for the warm welcome Hugh.

    Hi Hugh

I've been on Friends Reunited for over 6 years. Post a link to Hornsey County Sec Modern as well. I understand that this school has now been amalgamated with others in the area, but it exists on FR under the original name. Then there's also Hornsey County Grammar (which it was before it became the Sec Modern) They still have a very active 'old pupils' association called, I think, "Old Hornseyans".

I've been looking for Stephen H's posting, but can't find it.

Did you go to the historical photo talk, Hugh? Sounded interesting and shame we didn't get more notice.
    A.
  • alistairj

I did see the VE day photo - some great ones are appearing here.
  • Alison

    Hi Hugh,
Thanks a lot. It's a great idea. We should get together in someone's garden in the summer. (I don't have one!) or a pub garden, or Cafe Lemon and admire the photos.
    Alison.

    Hi Hugh

That's the problem with having such a common name. But I think 'John X' sounds a bit urban guerilla. I'll go for John E. Assuming there isn't one already.

Thank you! Haven't had a chance to properly explore this yet...
  • alistairj

Congratulations, Hugh - I am sure you noticed it but Google have now replaced 'The Trouble with Harringay' with your new h2g2 title!
(and your wiki article is the number 1 match for Harringay...)
  • alistairj

I guess the famous 'page ranking' algorithm treats new/changed as lower rank (I am sure it will get back up there...!)
  • Liz

"preceded by (excluded from above cuz it'd just turn into another link and you cdnt see it. " what?
It all looks like what I'm doing by the way.
  • Liz

Muchas gracias. it wasn't like what i was doing, there were subtle differences, hem.hem.
  • alistairj

If you find out how that chap managed to get his flickr picture 'instantly' so high in the Google ranking, I'd be interested to know! (maybe his surname is Page or Brin)
  • alistairj

Nice idea re. 'thenandnow' - cuts down on the scrolling between the two, and thanks for the acknowledgment! (BTW - thanks for the originals).

Aye, the old girl indeed is back. :)

What I'd like to do is to start a Wiki on this as well as other areas - a better way to organise info. (There is one coming soon for Ning, but it's been developed for Ning by a Ning member and it's being sold for £50. I'm not stumping that up myself, but if other members want to chip in............)
While we are waiting for that MTD money (!), I am sure we can get a few people to chuck in a tenner for this (Ben has already offered) but could you explain what a Wiki is and how it works. I guess we would be buying the technology and then we could use it for a number of projects, n'est-ce pas?

Nonsense, he's always up for a glass of the good stuff!
  • Liz

How did the 'Rubbish in Warham Road' post change into a different category? Weird...
  • Peter Chalk

Thanks, I was wondering if anyone else agrees that it be good to have a path the whole length of Duckett's Common so we could walk along it rather than the dangerous narrow pavement, on the way to the Turnpike Lane?
  • Coco

This is a great site Hugh. Thank you.

    Hi Hugh

    Hi Hugh,
Just wanted to say a big thank you for setting up this website and congratulate you on a fantastic job, I'm loving it! Hopefully we can change a few things round here!
  • Marian Leatherby

    Thank you vrey much Hugh.
By the way, I keep trying to reply to the Allotments thread to say I'm definitely interested in joining this plan to get land to share ... but the computer does nothing when I hit Reply ... I suppose that is due to the firewall or something ... ?
    Thanks, Marian

    Thanks for the help Hugh..

I'm never really sure whether to write anything or not.
You all just seem interested in meeting & drinking.. saufnasen!!

    Hi Hugh
Re the marketing cards, I like the first front and back the best, as it has the shadowed people in the background, if it had the green H on it too it would be perfect (in my opinion). Is this a card you will be looking for volunteers to stick through letter boxes????? I'll volunteer for my street if you like.
  • RuthE

How about some harringayonline T-shirts? When the time comes when we are forced to sweep our streets ourselves, we could where them to promote the site and annoy the council.
  • RuthE

    wear not where
  • Hugh

I'm there, believe me. T-shirts, Jute bags, car stickers..........you name it. I think that's next phase. Re cards to houses, what probably wd work is knocking doors, actually speaking to neighbours and then giving them the card - less likely to go straight into the bin.
  • RuthE

Hi Hugh, I can spare an hour putting some flyers through doors. Perhaps you could leave some in the salisbury for the book club tomorrow and I could get some members to post some on their way home?
  • Adrenne

Thanks so much. I can't believe how good the site is and the fact that I didn't know about it until now!

I think I'll be checking in regularly.
  • RuthE

How about you put a few copies for us to pick up behind the bar (assuming you're not coming to the book club!) and among us there should be some who have access to photo-copiers etc to make some copies and deliver them by the weekend?
  • RuthE

yes email me a copy and I'll hand some out at the pub tonight.
  • Margaret Fowler

I'm a bit phased out today on many matters, sorry not to reply very coherently to your request. I can leaflet St Ann's and Salisbury Rds easily, I already do them frequently with NHS, sustainable Haringey and Ward's Corner stuff. I used to do Betting Shops as well but I've given up on that. I don't think Salisbury Road could manage any more traffic flow, there would be a constant static line all day if any more was rerouted through there. I think other N15 roads would suffer too e.g. Woodlands Park Rd and Harringay Rd. I have also noticed that a great amount of Salisbury Rd traffic shoots straight up Warham Rd. very fast .
  • Margaret Fowler

All the Kenyan, Nigerian, Somali and many of the Turkish population of Haringey know where I live so there is no real identity problem. Anyone can knock on my door but I may not always answer it.
