Chicane gates (as in Woodlands Park, for example) sound like a good idea but there are lots of other pesky large vehicles – dustcarts, Ocado and John Lewis vans, Dial-a-Ride buses, BT, Yodel deliveries, builders doing loft conversions, Virgin media vans, even fire engines and ambulances, etc – that need regular or periodic access, so would it work in practice? Would, say, Falkland/Frobisher and Umfreville/Burgoyne have to be designated as official routes in and out for larger (non-HGV)…

Would, say, Falkland/Frobisher and Umfreville/Burgoyne have to be designated as official routes in and out for larger (non-HGV) traffic? And can long vehicles turn the corners into or out of Wightman, which look pretty sharp and narrow to me? Here in Glenwood we get all the weekly Tuesday/Wednesday dustcarts, plus the Jewsons' lorries, builders' white vans and general deliveries, etc, that need access to Woodlands Park for that very reason, but the road's a bit wider and there aren't the Harringay Heights to climb.
Wightman is still a no throug…tag:harringayonline.com,2016-09-02:844301:Comment:9143302016-09-02T17:11:42.342ZJoeWhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/joew

Wightman is still a no through road. Neither the bridgeworks nor the National grid resurfacing is complete, I think they have run out of tarmac. In fact I think the concrete blocks may have only been put aside to make tarmac deliveries easier plus allow access for the big resurfacing machines.

Curious, this. Signs for what - 7.5 tonne max weight? 20 mph limit?

When the blanket 20mph limit was activated I emailed council officials: would there be repeater signs on Wightman Road to match the proliferation everywhere else. I was told no, the Wightman Road 20 mph zone with signs either end and humps between satisfied the regulations. Now perhaps they don't, it seems.

Alex, we've been hearing promises of "monitoring and enforcement" for the past decade or more. Words! But the words I objected to above were "discouraging inappropriate use" when we should expect "stopping illegal use". Once upon a time the KoberKabinet had a Member for Environment & Enforcement. Now enforcement is almost a no-no word, being just Afterthought No.7 in Peray Ahmet's portfolio of pastimes. Next year we will have…

Paul, on Wightman Road we say "must have known". If you cast your mind back over 30 years, you may recall that Wightman Road in the 1980-86 era was nothing like 2010-2016 for heavy traffic, rat run drivers and the pollution they cause us.

I'm absolutely ecstatic on the opening of Wightman road ,I know that I am going to get aloof negativity from this but so one has to say it.
I've lived in the area for over 30 yrs and the last few months since the closure have made my traveling to shop on green road pure hell.
I do feel for the residents of Wightman road ,but would like to point out that they must of known that the road was a busy one when they moved in there .
