Something that didn't occur to me (until Ant mentioned it in the other thread), if the restrictions on the barriers included not only the people living on the ladder, but the people in the GL CPZ. Would this change it to a win for the areas. This should:

1. Give locals a quicker route out of the area by been able to skip Green Lanes

1. Give locals a quicker route out of the area by been able to skip Green Lanes

2. Reduce the amount of standing traffic on Green Lanes as the local users would no doubt prefer using the ladder. (Another way to improve this would be to remove parking along Green Lanes, but that's another issue with other problems)

3. Although it would increase the amount of traffic from the amount if only locals used it (~50k), but should still be a massive decrease on the current load of 200k.
I'm in GL (B) which I underst…tag:harringayonline.com,2016-08-31:844301:Comment:9134882016-08-31T13:25:51.217ZJulieBhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/JulieBartley

I'm in GL (B) which I understand was introduced a year or so later as an extension to GL (A). I can park in A and A permits can park in B.

I didn't realise GL went as far as Williamson and Finsbury Park Ave, I know it stops about half way up the ladder roads and it becomes Wood Green.

By small part I mean that the GL CPZ Zone A covers:

Wightman and the Ladder roads

Endymion Road and Lothair Road (Which I assume are considered ladder roads)

The Gardens

Williamson Road

Finsbury Park Ave and off shoots

Sorry I don't know what you mean by 'small part'?

I suppose it's all about boundaries, I live within the GL boundary so have a GL CPZ residents permit. I know that a permit doesn't entitle you to park in a specific space eg, right outside your house but it allows you to park in your local area.

Interesting, I've just looked the maps for the CPZ and it appears there is a small part on there that is allows parking on the Gardens/Ladder where you aren't actually a resident of those roads. So yea, I guess in that case, you wouldn't be a win for you :(

I have a GL parking permit so I can park on the Ladder Roads, but I can also park on the Gardens Roads and I'm not allowed a key/fob/thing for the gardens bollards.

So bollards on the ladder roads aren't a win for all concerned, IMHO.

I would expect it would be residents of the Ladder roads, Wightman road and (parts of) Green Lanes. I guess if you can get a parking permit for that area, you would have access.

Looking at what they did for the Gardens it appears to only be residents of the actual roads rather than people in the surrounding area.

It depends who is classed as a resident and who are classed as rat runners. I consider myself local Harringay traffic but I don't live on the ladder so others might consider me a rat runner.

One thing that came up in the Air Pollution thread was resident only bollards, which is what they have on the Gardens. This seems to be a decent solution that could leave everyone happy(ish).

1. Cuts the rat run of Wightman and Ladder Roads.

2. Allows residents of the area to still use those roads removing that traffic from Green Lanes and placing it back onto Wightman which should reduce delays for residents.

3. Hopefully maintain the amount of reduction seen in air pollution across Wightman/Green Lanes.

The costs don't seem bad at all, apparently the Gardens cost £50k plus ~2.5k per year to run according to the FOI request. This would maybe put use of these bollards for car users @ ~ £30 per year.

Unless I'm missing something here, isn't this a win for all concerned?

Antoinette, it just shows that the pollution we suffer locally is not all produced locally. Hong Kong suffers from massive amounts of pollution generated in mainland China.

I was expecting more than 30% too but I was also expecting it to increase on Turnpike Lane and Green Lanes, not decrease by the same as the rest of the ladder. It adds credence to the claim that 90% of the traffic just disappeared from the borough completely.
