Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

From a really, really poor negative. February 24th 1992

Blaze destroys petrol station shop. Mobil Petrol Station (I think Homebase is there now). Opposite Endymion Road.

I'm fairly sure where the Homebase is on GL there has been a similar shop at that location since at least the mid 80s? Don't recall there ever being a petrol station there?

Yes the petrol station did exist. The first DIY shop in roughly that location was Texas Homecare. The other (main) occupant of the site of what's now the Retail Park was a cash & carry, later joined by the Royal Mail local delivery office round the back.

You can see the location of the petrol station on this late 1940s aerial shot. Below it is the old Harringay Market and the Arena. Opposite is Endymion Roas and Finsbury Park.
