The gap between death and probate may have been because a relative had an interest in property during their lifetime which, upon their death, fell into Thomas's estate who had died some years earlier. If Thomas's own executor had died in the intervening period intestate (so not appointing an executor of their own estate) then a new application for probate and appointment of an executor would be necessary to deal with the property which now fell into the estate. When you accept the appointment as an executor of an estate it may not be appreciated that you also become executor to every estate that the deceased was executor to (the chain of executorship) and so have the obligation to deal with those estates as well, however if you die without appointing an executor of your own (or your executor is unwilling to act) then the chain of executorship is broken. It was quite common in those days for people to be given interests for their lifetime which would then pass to another on their death, even if that person had died at an earlier date so that the property then would pass to their beneficiaries.
Fascinating!
Whilst the 1699 date does put William Caseborne within the period of Huguenot migration, the deeper roots found elsewhere in East Anglia led to my assumption that it was photography that took Charles to France rather than family. But, you're right. The Casbon name could have Huguenot or, even Norman roots.
Do you think he had family in…tag:harringayonline.com,2021-07-04:844301:Comment:14357972021-07-04T04:51:02.440ZGeraldinehttps://harringayonline.com/profile/GeraldineTaylorThomas
