I remember Barnaby and the Suffolk Punch.

When I moved to Harringay in 1983, the local pubs were pretty rough and frequented mainly by older men, who weren't the friendliest.
I used to shop at Barnaby, and got friendly with a woman about my age (20). One morning, she told me she was getting engaged that evening to a friend of her brother; I pointed out she didn't look too happy about this. The next morning, she announced delightedly that she was now engaged. I asked her why she was so happy now - it turned out she had had a driving lesson the previous evening and had got engaged to her driving instructor instead.
There are planning applicatio…tag:harringayonline.com,2015-05-18:844301:Comment:7525832015-05-18T12:40:05.340Zhobhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/hob

There are planning applications from 1985 and 1986 that are looking to convert 12 Grand Parade from a bakery to a Estate Agents / Food Outlet for "Old Suffolk Punch". There was a TV / Electrical place called "Visionhire" on the Salisbury side of Marks, (The Chemist).

I think it was shut due to piping or that's what I was told, it was cheaper to close the pub done rather then re pipe the whole pub

It closed for a time first when they extended it into where Ladbrokes is now. It closed completely when Wetherspoons restructured the company and shut down their smaller pubs. I cannot ever remember any trouble in there.

It was a great pub. We used to call it the 'mouse poo pub' as the kitchen's hygiene left quite a lot to be desired, as evidenced by furry friends inhabiting the back area! But it was friendly and inexpensive.

Didn't it close because of some trouble/crime? I seem to remember a serious incident or two. Shame though. I'd rather have the pub than another bookies.
