Many cars are driving illegally on Umfreville Rd this evening from Wightman down to Green Lanes disregarding the one-way signs. I think Burgoyne Rd has long queues to join Green Lanes and some northbound drivers are thinking "soddit", any port in a storm. This may also be an issue on Cavendish and perhaps Mattison too if Duckett is similarly overloaded by southbound traffic..

Thames Water have a road closure for the next *three* weeks immediately north of the Burgoyne Rd turning - this is not a short-term blip.

Coming down Wightman this afternoon a woman behind me a woman was honking and when she eventually passed she had her window wound down and shouted something about staying closer to the kerb.

The reason I ride in the middle of the lane is when it's not safe to pass. I'm in front of you and higher up, so can see further ahead. I can see oncoming cars and cyclists, so I know if you pass me you'd be putting your and their lives in danger as well as mine.

If it looks safe to pass I usually pull in a bit - many drivers don't seem to know how wide their vehicle is and pass too closely. Most of the time it isn't safe though, the chicanes and hills mean that visibility is usually not good. The chicanes are there to slow cars down, it may well have done that overall but cars still speed up when overtaking cyclists, just like they used to do around the pedestrian refuge islands.
HGVs on Warham Roadtag:harringayonline.com,2019-10-07:844301:Topic:11967752019-10-07T18:09:37.289ZMichael Andersonhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/17bathgate

for the third time in the last few months an HGV has become stuck at the top of Warham Road and for the third time it has been left to locals to sort out the chaos.
Do you think TfL will manage to wrestle some streets off Kensington and Chelsea?

And do you think we could get them to take over a few Harringay streets too (Wightman)? Haringey Council seem to have a similar ideological hatred of cyclists...

What if the council banned overtaking on Wightman Rd?tag:harringayonline.com,2018-01-15:844301:Topic:10500442018-01-15T15:17:57.714ZJohn McMullanhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/bogan72

I wonder what people would think if the council experimented with completely banning overtaking on Wightman Rd as a step towards giving us a more liveable urban environment without offending the motorists of Crouch End and Enfield too much? The 20mph limit is set by the council and this ban would also be in their remit. Although speed limit is mostly enforced using road humps I challenge you go and visit another English town without 20mph limits in areas like Harringay, it's…

The idea would be that in rush hour, maximum speeds would be enforced by cyclists and that cycling down there would be a much nicer experience. There is already precious little room or incentive (I'll get to that) for vehicles to overtake anyway.

At rush hour there are queues at either end of Wightman Rd, quite big queues, that make it nonsensical to over take anyway. We have seen video footage on here of dangerous overtaking on Wightman Rd and it has to be done at much more than the 20mph limit because of oncoming traffic and the pedestrian islands.

On Sunday at 10.30 am is our Harvest Festival Mass, where we give thanks for the abundant harvest of toiletries for the Haringey Churches Winter Night Shelter. The Winter Night Shelter, which runs at (other) local churches on a rotating basis during the coldest months of the year gives food, shelter and assistance to homeless guests and actively helps them to get a place to live and a job. The Winter Night Shelter always needs practical donations and we have been particularly asked to direct our Harvest appeal towards toiletries (for men and women), such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, shower gel, soap, etc. You are very welcome to bring donations to the Harvest Festival Mass, or to Beer & Hymns.

We look forward to seeing you over the weekend!

"With highways frequently congested, navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze started telling drivers to hop off the freeway at Fremont's Mission Boulevard, cut through residential streets and then hop back on the highway where things were clearer — much to the distress of the people who lived there.

“The commuters didn’t live or work in Fremont and didn’t care about our residential neighborhoods,” said Noe Veloso, Fremont’s principal transportation engineer.

When he contacted the navigation apps, he was told the apps attempt to prevent congestion by distributing traffic on all public streets, even to quiet residential roadways. The only way to stop the drivers was to change the street routing so these shortcuts were no longer that."

Essentially, unless there are physical restrictions on the roads then google maps etc will direct traffic down the fastest route available at that moment...
Fire on Wightmantag:harringayonline.com,2016-07-23:844301:Topic:9025642016-07-23T12:48:44.866ZJohn Dhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/JohnD

I just wondered if this was a problem all along Wightman road and perhaps the rungs of the ladder too, of if it was isolated to small areas.
