I think it's about time Govia gave special attention to the needs of it's customers on Great Northern during peak times. Another carriage would go a long way to accommodate passengers left crowded off trains in the mornings on Hornsey and Harringay platforms, together with greater frequency into Morgate and Kings Cross.

Hi,

I can't see any more recent update on that consultation, but I did see this on the London Reconnections site:

"However, the long-neglected Harringay and Hornsey stations can only handle 6-cars, and their extension may not be easy.

Further, following the completion of suburban line segregation, unless money is found to build new platform faces, Hertford Loop services will no longer be able to call at those two stations, leaving them reliant on Welwyn services (whether those heading to/from Moorgate or through the Thameslink core) to maintain current service levels; we will explore this further in Part 2. After local pressure, the DfT confirmed that Thameslink 8-car trains will stop at Harringay & Hornsey, but as yet there is no word on whether platforms will be extended or whether these stations will rely on the politically-problematic Selective Door Opening."

This seems to suggest a potential reduction of services from these stations, but also that there will be services through Thameslink to South London & beyond, though "Thameslink’s final shape remains partially opaque even with only three years left to completion."

Does anyone have any more info?

NB According to the comments a 'part 2' article is due soon, which will include more on Harringay & Hornsey....
Public Meeting with Network Rail on 3rd Decembertag:harringayonline.com,2012-11-13:844301:Topic:4304892012-11-13T09:18:02.115ZDavid Robsonhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/DavidRobson

Vibrations on the Goblin Line

I am pleased to confirm that I met this week with representatives from Network Rail. The meeting was a constructive one, and Network Rail appear open to agreeing a period of vibration monitoring similar to that taking place in Walthamstow. In order to ensure that any testing that is carried out is as comprehensive as possible, I will be issuing a survey in the N4 area allowing us to see which roads and properties are experiencing vibrations from the Goblin Line. In addition, Network Rail have set up a specific email by which you can notify them of your experiences. As I am sure many of you are aware, the Goblin line has long been causing problems for residents in N4, and the recent increase in freight traffic has made matters worse. Living in the area myself I am all to aware of just how disruptive the noise and vibration can be, so it it vital that we are able to provide Network Rail with as detailed description of disruption as possible. A public meeting with the manager of the Anglia Line is scheduled for December 3rd. In the meantime, I will be distributing a survey in the affected area and will make sure you are kept informed of any updates.
Overground Users Warn Passengers to Avoid Line During Olympicstag:harringayonline.com,2012-07-17:844301:Topic:3878362012-07-17T18:19:43.158ZHughhttps://harringayonline.com/profile/hjuk

At a recent meeting (25th June) at Waltham Forest Town Hall, representatives from the Barking – Gospel Oak Line User Group called upon Transport for London to agree to run the daytime 15-minute train frequency to the end of service with a weekday start on Sunday mornings when the<p">Games are in session.

On 2nd to the Barking – Gospel Oak Line in an attempt to avoid packed trains and gridlocked streets.Instead, they will find trains already packed at peak times and long waits for equally busy trains after 10 O’clock at night.”

Now BGOLUG has learnt that a vital morning commuter train, only put on last summer to relieve overcrowding is to be cancelled during the Olympic Games.

It seems that the proposed electrification of the line that runs through Harringay Green Lanes Station (the Barking to Gospel Oak line) has failed to make the cut in the most recent rail investment spending round.

Yesterday Dave and Nick announced £9 billion of rail infrastructure spending at their so called "second gay wedding" (I like to think of more as a renewal of marriage vows). Since it was a key part of Boris Johnson's manifesto, it had been hoped that further investment in Harringay's second line was to have been included in the spending portfolio. But it seems that this was not to be.

The works would have seen electricity powered trains able to run the length of the new Overground Line, removing the need to change trains at Gospel Oak where the electrification currently starts. The proposed link-up with the Great Northern Line at Harringay is also to be shelved for the time being.

I'm currently unaware of the reasoning, but a quick look at the proposals published last September (attached) suggests that it may well have been a cost issue. At between £69 - 80M, it was by far the most expensive item on the list of proposed projects in London and the South East (Proposals for the BGO line work and the costings are also attached as extracts).

So, for the time being at least, it looks like the only rail works we're likely to see on the Harringay Green Lanes line will be the addition of a few hooks on Harringay Bridge so that we can get the banner hung.
