I was just in Sainsbury's and after weighing some broccoli and thinking it was a bit pricey, I tried the other food scales.

Here are the results for the same piece of broccoli on the 3 sets of scales in the fruit and veg area.

Choose the wrong scales when doing your smart shop and your fruit and veg could end up being nearly 60% more expensive.

I demonstrated this to the Duty Manager , Rasel, who said there was nothing they could do but would raise it with their trading hotline. And of course, no chance of compensation for any potential past over charging.

All in all he didn't seem that fussed about it so I won't be holding my breath for it to be resolved in the near future.

Choose your scales with care kids.

Anyone else had this one? Got an automated call on landline, says it's BT and there has been suspicious activity so they are cutting off phone and internet. I hung up at the point and unplugged socket connection.

Would be interested to hear back. Of course, if it is not a scam and I'll be cut off I won't be able to read your responses!

Just a word of warning...there are people, and one lady in particular who are knocking on doors fairly late in the evening usually asking for some cash because of an emergency. The person I opened the door to (around midnight) claimed to be a neighbor from a few doors up... I didn't respond to this and she went away. I was forewarned because I'd had a similar experience some time ago at another address and that time I fell for the story and gave away £20...

I told him I didn't have that money on me and he said I should go to an ATM but I said no. My mum then came to the door and again he tried to tell her her fortune. He then asked for more money £101. He manipulated us into handing over some money. Normally I am very cautious but he seemed to use tactics to manipulate us to handing over some money. I later googled this situation and found this has happened all around the world. Please see following link where people have experienced similar situations.
Be on your guard as these holy type con men prey on you and us tactics to extract money from you. They seem to prey on your emotional side, meaning everything else goes out of the window and you end up handing money over without realising.!!
A reminder of a telephone scam brought to your attention last year that is still happening.

Please note that telephone calls made to landline phones can only be terminated by the person that has made the call. Hence, if the caller does not hang up, you will not be able to get a dialling tone and will not be able to dial out.

How the scam works is that you receive a call from someone claiming to be from your bank, the police or other authority. They ask you to call back to authenticate the call (so that they can gain your trust in order to obtain personal details from you), however they do not disconnect, and whilst you think you are making a new call, you are in fact still connected to the original caller.

I have just received an email from Mike, one of our Stroud Green coordinators, who has just received such a call …..

“Last night I received a phone call from a supposed DCI called Martin Benton claiming that a man called John Bailey has been arrested, and was being held at Hammersmith Police Station having tried to use my debit/credit card in a Leicester Square club, which incidentally is still in my possession. He gave me a ‘police reference number’ of EK786’. I smelt a rat when this ‘DCI’ asked for my date of birth. I told him I was not prepared to give such information as I did not know if he was genuine or not.

He told me to phone 101, the non-emergency Metropolitan Police number, to confirm his identity. Having hung-up, I noticed that I did not have a dial tone on my phone. I disconnected my phone and put it back in then I had a dialling tone. I then phoned 101 to speak to the police. The very helpful police woman took my contact details and told me that the so-called ‘crime reference number’ rang a bell with her and was almost certainly a scam. At her advice, I checked the number of the last caller and it was ‘number withheld’.

I’m just glad that I ensured that the call was disconnected and I had a dialling tone before calling the police, so I could ensure that I really was speaking to the police.”
