Hi,

I'm looking for a good general builder for repairing a few bits of pointing on external walls, a bit on roof & maybe some other jobs.

I've looked at the recommendations here, but most of them are quite old, so it would be good to get some up-to-date recommendations from happy customers!

Thanks,

A brick tumbled out of our chimney stack one Sunday morning, alerting us to the fact that the whole thing was on the verge of collapse. We found Lee/LA Roofing through Harringay Online (his number: 07973 738590) and we were really pleased with what he did for us.

After we texted him, he came round for a visit very quickly, diagnosed the problem and arranged to have scaffolding put up within a matter of hours so he could get started on the job the following day. Once he was up there, he showed us exactly what needed doing (with the help of photos from his phone), and ensured that by the time he came down, the roof was ready to be left alone for a few more decades (NB: worth getting multiple jobs done at the same time - scaffolding isn't cheap).

Lee never seemed to be giving it the hard sell, and was up front about what things would cost. He also enjoyed explaining how roofs worked and what happened when they didn't work properly (our new favourite new word: "flaunching").

This was also good: his van has a livery on, and he puts his banner up on the scaffolding when he is working, so I guess that means he is proud of what he does, and easy to identify: reassuring if you are concerned about knowing who you are letting on to your roof.
recommendation Lee Murphy -- Roofertag:harringayonline.com,2021-01-15:844301:Topic:13881322021-01-15T12:46:22.245ZMaren Meinhardthttps://harringayonline.com/profile/MarenMeinhardt

Just a quick recommendation for Lee Murphy from LA Roofing. A tile had come loose in the recent high winds, and Lee came round on the day I called him to have a look at it. Today, he fixed it, secured it, and cleaned the gutters while he was there, all for a very reasonable £80. He was lovely, and I couldn't recommend him more highly.

I am looking to deck/cover my roof terrace (11m squared) and for someone to weld the gate back on which leads to the fire escape.

It would be great if someone could recommend a builder or landscape gardener who can do this and I will also need advice on what weight the roof can bear and what materials will be appropriate. If anyone else has done something similar and has any recommendations then I would love to hear from them too.

Many thanks,

I am working in my loft office today and keep hearing what sounds like a swarm of seagulls having a huge argument on my roof - lots of squawking and pattering of feet, and then flying off... has anyone else experienced this? what do you do about it?

THE Council reported yesterday the result of some welcome – but overdue – activity to remove a discarded mattress from a roof.

Their PR department also crowed on Twitter about the mattress removal. On the web site, the mattress was described as a 'bizarre find', however there's fair dose of spin mixed in with the account.

Although the resting place of the mattress is unusual, there's nothing unusual about the dumping of mattresses. The peculiar location of the mattress was reported to the Council on 23 September by community campaigner Mr. Martin Ball.

Thus, the action was not swift action and it was not the 'find' of a Council Officer.

This triumph is no more than the public pay for and expect.

On Twitter, Mr Ball objected to the "boasting how they got a dumped mattress off a roof". He said it was "pathetic" for the council "to claim credit when they they did nothing for a month".

Mr Ball is right.

If one were cynical, one might conclude that the Communications Department (public relations) were waiting until they could organise a photo-shoot and a story.

However it reflects more than the reliance on spin: it disguises the inadequate resources going towards the basics. I would switch resources from PR (that cost money), back to the basics: rubbish and fly-tipping. Many of us see bins overflowing across the Borough.

The "fight back" and "crackdown" that the Council vaunts as Operation Twilight, needs to be continuous and not intermittent one-offs, exploited for dubious PR.

I am look for a good and reliable builder to do some work on my kitchen. The kitchen has an adjacent bathroom and I am keen to incorporate this into the kitchen which will require removing a wall and installing an RSJ. Once I have purchased a new kitchen I would also like some help with installing this also.
A bit of mishmash of work really and I would really like to find a conscientious and reliable builder willing to tackle all of the above.
