Two weekends of noise, disruption, antisocial behaviour & loss of half the park for four weeks when the park should be available for the people who live round and close by. No one to blame but the Haringey Councillors who agreed to this. If you experience problems and keep ringing their complaints line 020 8396 7701 - if people don’t log concerns the council will claim there is no problem.

After a failed judicial review at the High Court last year, the Friends of Finsbury Park submitted an application to review operator Live Nation’s licence last July.

The review has now been given the green light and will take place in front of the Haringey licensing sub-committee on October 15th and 16th at the Civic Centre in High Road, Wood Green.

The review has received the support of Islington and Hackney councils – who want to see tighter restrictions put in place regarding noise, capacity and anti-social behaviour.

It also received the backing of Jeremy Corbyn, who said he was becoming “increasingly concerned” about the impact of closures of the park on locals. He also said it was “very obvious the organisers were not sufficiently prepared for it, or its effects on the local community”, referencing neighbours who could feel their homes “literally vibrating”.

The Wireless Festival could be required to use ID scanners following demands made by the Friends of Finsbury Park group to change Live Nation'slicence.

The call has been backed by both Hackney and Islington councils

Hackney’s crime chief Cllr Caroline Selman also asked if the 49,999 capacity was appropriate and whether the curfew should be earlier.

Haringey will now decide whether to approve the review.

Friends of Finsbury Park (FoFP) have lodged the challenge in a bid to stop Haringey Council from holding Wireless Festival in the park following complaints over crime and anti-social behaviour.

The group claims the council has failed to uphold the licensing objectives relating to the prevention of crime and disorder and the prevention of public nuisance

Martin Ball, a trustee of FoFP, said the scale and the extent of the event were not appropriate for a venue like Finsbury Park.

<div id="google_ads_iframe_/154725070/www.enfieldindependent.co.uk/news_2__container__">He said: “There have been reports, witness statements and emails about widespread drug dealing, criminal damage and general anti-social behaviour.

“People have been talking about noise during the day and night, disturbing their kids’ sleep. It is wrong at any time. The noise is clearly too loud.

“Fireworks going off at the end of the night might be great if you are there, but not if you are in a neighbouring home.”

Mr Ball claimed the council was trying to use the income generated by the event to make up for its underfunding of the parks budget.

The organisers of Wireless Festival sold 135,000 tickets for this year’s event, which was held on July 6-8, making it one of the biggest live music events in the UK.

A maximum number of 50,000 people are allowed to attend the event on any one day, meaning large areas of the park that are normally open to the public have to be fenced off.
The Parktag:harringayonline.com,2018-07-08:844301:Topic:10957902018-07-08T09:15:27.349ZProtheroe O'Sheahttps://harringayonline.com/profile/TunbridgeWells

That's what we have to look forward to - with a short respite on the second weekend in June. People who want to use the park in this lovely weather will find half of it blocked and the other half filled with concert vehicles, litter, etc not to mention the sound levels. And those of us wanting to spend the weekends relaxing in our gardens with have a constant background of thumping music.

I really don't object to it being used for one or two weekend concerts per year, but this is well over the top - there are more in September - and deprives us both of use of a public amenity and of our right to peace. If the neighbours were regularly playing music this loud we could call the council, but in this case they are the ones responsible.
