Hi,

When we bought our house a few years ago, the survey identified rising damp. We now want to get this looked at, but are worried any surveyor will say we need work done regardless so they can make money off us. Does anyone have any recommendations for someone independent to come and have a look?

Thanks,

Hi all, have seen some recommendations, plus some warnings on here! I have a damp patch on kitchen wall, been ignoring it for too long. Need it remedying sometime soon and any remedial decorating done afterwards.

Would be grateful for any recommendations of local companies/people. Thanks!

Hi all,

We have a huge issue with damp in the backroom of our flat. There's lovely black mold making it's way up the wall and the plaster has blown. It's a real horror show.

It's a classic Victorian conversion, so does suffer from condensation issues due to lack of airflow. However the main issue is that some eejit has poured concrete over the pathway around the house and the ground level is now above the damp proof course and only about an inch from the air bricks. However the main issue is that some eejit has poured concrete over the pathway around the house and the ground level is now above the damp proof course and only about an inch from the air bricks. The back wall has been rendered, so unlikely to be water coming in that way- my Dad is a surveyor and his solution is dropping the ground level around the house by a foot and putting in a french drain.

Has anyone had similar work done and can recommend a reliable builder? And a plasterer for when it is fixed?

It will be a tricky and messy job as the only access to the garden is through the flat (argh!)...However since we have to get this work done, we'd also like to look at updating the garden and either laying a new patio or decking.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

This may be a tall order, but I am looking for someone who could replaster a corner of our hallway that's been suffering from a perennial recurring spot of dampness on the wall. We have done some snooping around and the most likely cause of it is condensation as the cold and warm air fronts meet in this very particular spot.

The job would be to:

The job would be to:

- remove a set perimeter of plaster and/or filler that we believe isn't breathable/fit for purpose; and all skirting in the process with due care for existing, recently refurbished remainder of the wall

- re-plaster with 100% lime plaster and return in 2-6 weeks to paint; key they are aware of the different plaster solutions and we can trust them to work on this safe in the knowledge that the right product is being used for the job

It's a reasonably small job but happy to compensate in excess to make it worth their while.

Thank you in advance.

I'm fighting - so far unsuccessfully - to contain a rising damp problem. Despite investigating pipes and drains, remedial work to damp courses and walls, and removal of loads of rubble chucked under the floors by previous builders that stopped air circulating, the sodden earth persists (there are no proper foundations, of course, thanks to Victorian spec building).

Years ago I was told that the N15 side of Green Lanes, where I am, has a very high water table, so it could be that what I'm dealing with is ground water, rather than a leak or one specific source. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, is there any remedy that works (short of sinking an Artesian well in the back garden)?
Salt damptag:harringayonline.com,2018-09-27:844301:Topic:11215402018-09-27T09:52:43.154ZCarolinehttps://harringayonline.com/profile/CarolineLemmon928
