SUMMARY:Tomorrow’s Warriors presents JAM String Collective
DESCRIPTION:Tomorrow’s Warriors presents JAM String Collective. A Co
ntemporary Jazz String trio playing original compositions and arrangem
ents featuring Julia Dos Reis (viola), Annalise Lam (violin), and Mira
nda Lewis-Brown (cello).\nThe trio plays their own re-imaginings of wo
rks by jazz heavy weights, such as Ornette Coleman, Thelonious Monk, a
nd Kenny Wheeler, as well as their own compositions. The arrangements
leave lots of space for moments of freeness, with a heavy focus on int
eraction and improvisation.\nJulia and Miranda met in 2015 through Gar
y Crosby's (OBE) Tomorrow's Warriors Jazz String project, StringTing,
with whom they have gigged extensively across the UK and Europe. They
have toured with larger Warrior ensembles such as Peter Edward's NuCiv
ilisation Orchestra, and Jazz Jamaica, as well as played their own gig
s - as a trio and quartet - in venues such as Ronnie Scott's, Pizza Ex
press Club Soho, The Purcell Room SBC. In 2019 they supported legendar
y saxophonist, Steve Williamson, in a UK tour.\nIn more recent years A
nnalise also joined the larger collective of StringTing, first meeting
Julia at a Warrior's workshop led by jazz violinist extraordinaire, B
enet McClean. Julia and Annalise struck up a relationship which contin
ued through their Masters studies at Guildhall, where they would often
meet to jam ideas, many of which have continued into JAM. The JAM Str
ing Collective brings the trio together in a new project, based in Lon
don and Bristol. In 2022 they released a live performance of Kenny Whe
eler's classic Kind Folk. Treating the group as a collective, they hav
e plans to involve other instrumentalists and performers for future pr
ojects.\nDoors open at 7pm, music starts at 8pm. Please book a ticket
in advance.\nTickets £5-10\nVENUE: MAAD (fka Karamel), 4 Coburg Rd, W
ood Green, London N22 6UJ\nThe premises has a fresh air ventilation sy
stem installed throughout the restaurant and theatre. Menu is availabl
 e at maad.co\n\nFor more information visit https://harringayonline.com
