Jasdeep Singh Degun brings together the two prominent styles of classical music in the form of a Sitar Concerto. Opposition, cooperation and independence are all concepts explored within concerto music yet this is not reflected within Hindustani music, which is predominantly independent. Jasdeep believes that in creating this new piece of music, it will enhance the versatility of an Indian Classical musician.
The zerOclassikal project, a partnership between zeroculture and Collage Arts continues to offer a radical approach to south Asian classical music, aiming to provide British born and trained musicians the voice and platform to explore what their identity brings to the ‘ancient’ musical genre . The Project facilitates progressions, experiments and developments of the genre, featuring commissions of new raags, new interpretations, compositions, and improvisations.
Karamel is proud once again to host the project with a monthly programme featuring artists willing to push the boundaries of South Asian classical music.
