Make a smoothie from the pedal power of a bicycle, take a virtual bike ride, sit in a Heavy Goods Vehicle and see if you can spot cyclists and pedestrians in the side mirrors, get your bike serviced or have a go on a crazy bike when you attend the community Smarter Travel event in Hornsey High Street. Visitors will also be able to have their bikes security marked and its all free of charge.
Residents are invited to join in fun activities and to have a chat about their sustainable travel choices, including free personal travel planning help. There’s also an opportunity to help establish where improvements could be made around the neighbourhood.
The event will also include a Dr Bike maintenance team who will provide free servicing of bicycles for visitors and the Crazy Bike Company will have a selection of bicycles and tricycles for visitors to ride. The Police’s ‘Exchanging Places’ initiative will be at the event, providing visitors with the opportunity to sit in the driver's seat of a HGV to get a better understanding of what the driver can and can’t see, especially in regards to cyclists on the nearside and directly in front of the vehicle.
There will also be a stall run by a local cycle shop, selling various bicycle accessories. The standard Smarter Travel questionnaire has been adapted to contain additional questions relating to road safety in the area.
There will be a free raffle for those visitors that complete the questionnaire, who will have the chance to win a new bicycle.
