Bizet: Carmen Suite No. 1
Korngold: Violin Concerto (Soloist: Beatrice Philips)
Brahms: Symphony No. 3
Conductor: Robert Max
For our first concert of 2019, we are presenting three perennially popular favourites of the orchestral repertoire. We begin with a latin flourish with Bizet's exotic Carmen Suite No.1. We are delighted to welcome Beatrice Philips, who will give us a touch of Hollywood with Korngold's lyrical violin concerto. This is followed by Brahms' romantically melodic 3rd Symphony.
Beatrice Philips enjoys a busy and diverse freelance life as a much sought-after chamber musician, soloist, orchestral leader and teacher. As a soloist she has given performances of concertos by Mendelssohn, Mozart, Sibelius, Bruch, Vivaldi, Bach and Tchaikovsky with orchestras throughout UK and in Europe. Beatrice is first violinist of the Eusebius Quartet, finalists in this years Royal Overseas League competition. The quartet has appeared in numerous leading chamber music festivals and have recorded works by Bartok, Haydn and Korngold to critical acclaim. Beatrice plays a Stradivarius violin on loan from Beare Violins.
