Qigong exercise promotes health in all the major organs as well as good circulation and strengthening the bones. You will be working on posture, breathing, relaxation, de-stressing, and coordination.
The class will introduce both standing Qigong (Zhan Zhuang Qigong) and moving Qigong (Dao Yin Yang Sheng Gong).
Standing Qigong helps release the body’s natural energy, relaxing into the posture and learning how to release muscles, and simultaneously correcting imbalances in the organs of the body. As you become more adept at Zhan Zhuang, your body becomes more relaxed and your mind becomes calmer. It is therefore an excellent method of learning how to cope with stress, tension and anxiety.
Moving Qigong is a comprehensive system of gentle exercises involving breath control, combining the stimulation of key acupressure points in the body with visualisation and movement. The exercises, which combine breathing with movement, are in sets which are for toning the body, and for the various body systems e.g. cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, liver, kidneys, etc. The purpose is to strengthen and make us more vital and invigorated, to increase energy levels, to enliven our emotional life and reduce negativity, to bring balance to all the body’s systems, to increase flexibility, and to bring relaxation and quietness into our everyday activity.
James is a member of the Longfei Taijiquan Association. He became involved in the Chinese Health Arts in 1975 when he began by studying Gongfu and Taijiquan. In 1980 he began learning the Yang family style of Taijiquan and Zhan Zhuang Qigong under Master Chu King Hung and has also studied Zhan Zhuang Qigong with Master Lam Kam Chuen and more recently with Master Huang Ping.
