This walk explores the hidden courtyards and alleyways of the City of London. Join qualified London Blue Badge Guide, Historian and Radio Broadcaster, Diane Burstein*, on this exploration of the oldest part of London.
Founded by the Romans in 43AD , the City has a fascinating history stretching back over 2000 years. It’s an exciting, buzzing area where new iconic skyscrapers stand cheek by jowl with ancient churches and buildings, Livery Halls (the homes of the City Trade Guilds) and renowned financial institutions.
Discover the site where the “exotic” drink of coffee was first consumed, visit deserted churchyards, see some locations which inspired Charles Dickens, drink in an historic pub or two and walk through an atmospheric Victorian market place.
This event takes place in all weathers so please bring an umbrella in case of rain and wear comfortable shoes for walking.
Starting Point: outside Bank tube station (Central and Northern Lines), exit 3, by the War Memorial in front of the Royal Exchange.
Schedule: walk for approximately 45 minutes, followed by a pub stop for 30 minutes, then walk for another 45 minutes, finishing near Monument tube station (or London Bridge tube & train station for those continuing to another pub to socialise at the end of the walk – Diane will take you here).
*Diane Burstein has a BA Honours degree in English Literature and History and is one of London’s best known and most versatile tour guides.
