Celebrate LGBT+ History Month this Valentine’s Weekend at Bruce Castle with two LGBTQ+ love stories – both making history in Haringey.
On 21 December 2005 at 9am, Colin Ward and Ric Sajor became pioneers leading the way to become the first Civil Partnership couple in Haringey. Although they had already been together for 15 years, their journey to that day was long, having to work with the Stonewall Immigration Group to change same-sex immigration laws.
Sharing their story too are Subodh Rathod and Niranjan Kamatkar of Wise Thoughts, who 9 years later were the first same-sex couple to be married in Haringey at 9am on 29 March 2014.
Overcoming years of struggle and battles for equality to have their own relationships acknowledged in the eyes of the law, both couples’ stories leave a wonderful legacy for those that follow in their footsteps.
The afternoon is introduced by Angela Mascolo, volunteer at Bruce Castle Museum.
