The splendid French court at Versailles had an enormous influence on European cultural life throughout the Baroque era. Whether delicate ornamentations or extravagant ballet scenes, the French Style prevailed in musical life far beyond its national borders.
However, as the world looked towards the court of the Sun King for inspiration, the French tastes absorbed foreign influences and new inspiring styles were born.
In this programme, Flauguissimo celebrates not only the ostentatious French music in its original form but also follows the trail towards an international style in which the elegant French dances meet a flaming Italian virtuosity: Les Goûts-réunis!
Music by Couperin, Hotteterre and de Visée.
