DESCRIPTION:Mozart’s cherished Requiem is intensely dramatic, with o
 rigins shrouded in mystery. Mozart received an anonymous commission fo
 r a Requiem Mass in 1791 and came to believe he was composing it for h
 is own funeral. By the time of his death that December at the age of 3
 5, it remained unfinished; it is widely believed that his pupil, Süss
 mayr, completed it but the space for doubt keeps alive the mystique. I
 t is truly a masterpiece, with its extraordinary beauty, subtlety and 
 profound expression touching each new generation. \n The first half 
 of the concert includes works by Christopher Tin on the theme of fligh
 t including the iconic theme Sogno di Volare from the video game Civil
 ization, to follow Gibbons’s pristine The Silver Swan, as well as Je
 ssica Curry’s haunting Echo, a CEFC commission dedicated to her late

 ty Whately, mezzo-soprano, Gwilym Bowen tenor, John Savournin bass-
