Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Last steam of the year - and last chance to see Bittern for a good while since it's due its 10-year overhaul  [*not quite so; see below], and when it comes back it will probably look different, i.e. not in blue and minus the 1930s-style streamlined valances over the driving wheels.

Departs Kings Cross 0825, so should pass through Harringay around 0835 on its way to Lincoln. Excursion details here, detailed timings here and here, return around 2010. If you're on the station around 0750 it will pass through, but in reverse and towed by a diesel.

Next scheduled steam on Valentine's Day, and there is a chance that South Tottenham/Harringay Green Lanes could see steam on Saturday 7th March, though the route details for the excursion from Southend and Barking to Bristol aren't yet available - it could go via Highbury & Islington instead.

Thanks for this, Gordon. I plan to go to Ally Pally station, hoping for spectacular photos of speed, steam and smoke against a crisp and sunny winter's sky. I'll upload the results if successful.

Good luck, and if it's misty/foggy (the weather forecast hints at it) I hope you capture that atmospheric view too.

Looking at the deep frost covering the roads and our car, I opted for the Oxford Road bridge in to Finsbury Park. "Bittern" looked splendid. Photos attached.

Handsome!

Great shot Stephen! Heres another from the station, lovely frosty early morning light. Chris

Splendid!

A small correction about Bittern: it will still be active on preserved railways next year (on the Mid-Hants Railway, betwen Alton [British Rail connection] and Alresford). It won't be available for National Rail journeys, however.
