Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

HOL Flower Show - July (aka. what's good in your garden *now*)

It's July already and a new month...

FAQ
  • What's it all about? See here.
  • Great - where can I see all the 'shows'? See here.
  • Can I contribute? Most welcome (especially as Liz is without her camera at the moment...). If you can make the image file size modest (say less than 100k), it will be quicker to upload and view.

Alstroemeria - this was already in the garden before me and it took me a couple of years to work out what it was. The red dashes are the giveaway.

Verbena bonariensis - a great plant and very popular nowadays. Some people say it self-seeds - hasn't happened for me yet unfortunately.

Dianthus (Pink)

I planted an Alstroemeria this year, but apparently it takes a couple of years before I can get to see a flower.

It sounds like I need to take some picture of my garden this week end and post it.
Don't know about the 'couple of years' aspect as I didn't plant mine. I suspect mine are 'underperforming' as there is an abundance of greenery and not many flowers but they are very nice while they last.
re. taking some pictures and posting - go for it. It is what that 'flower' symbol on your camera was made for!
Gorgeous pictures Alistair. We have Verbena B everywhere, but it only really self-seeds in funny places like the cracks between paving - never in the border. It likes very poor free draining soil I think (or maybe mine are just very easy to please!).

Will get out there with my camera now...
Maybe I'll have to scatter some of this year's seeds in some inhospitable places and see what happens!
Okay, here we go...

This is a new one on me, called Sidalcea Party Girl (or something like that). Planted it last year to fill a gap and (for once!) it has thrived. Pretty huh ...

And continuing my sales pitch for the humble dahlia, here is purple gem. Has kept us in cut flowers for the last few months though is quite high maintenance as it is in a pot and collapses if it isn't watered every day.

And here is another dahlia. Can't remember the name, haven't grown it before and my initial reaction is that it is a bit too fussy-looking. But the photo doesn't do the velvetiness of the flowers justice.

Those dahlias are far from 'humble'! I don't think they would last very long with me though with the daily watering, and sensitivity to frost.
New camera and just foliage in my back garden!
However the window boxes are looking nice (or were until yesterday's torrential and unrelenting rain)
Geraniums
Still just foliage and plums in my personal forest but this has reared its rather regal head
Lily
Great photo - very atmospheric. It looks like a Zantedeschia - Hugh took a picture of one in 'May'. Does it have a yellow 'spike' in its centre?

Here's a Crocosmia ('Lucifer' I think).

Here's a bit of July from me:

Lithrum (Originally bought from Hampton Court RHS on the last day about 12 years ago)

Potentilla, Primrose Beauty - a real performance plant - this shrub is covered with flowers from spring till early autumn.

Trachelospermum, Jasminoides. Grown in a pot to about 5 feet tall next to the back door where it wafts its heavenly perfume into the kitchen.

Echinacea, Sunrise

Nice collection, Hugh - complete with posing insects...!
Yeah the one on the potentilla looks like it's dead and was put there for effect - actually it was very much alive!
