Hiya folks,
My Bramleys have started to fall and I did my first pressing of 2012 on Friday last. I expect to have accumulated enough fruit for a further load (ie about 30-40 kg) by the weekend so I propose to do another pressing on Saturday morning.
Anyone who wants to help or is simply interested in the process is welcome to come (with children - who can help and/or play in the garden). There is not a lot of work involved. The jobs are: rinsing and cutting the apples, grating them to pulp, putting it all in the press, screwing it down and tasting the product. Alone this lot would take me no more than three hours but watching visitors do it is more fun!
I intend to pasteurise the first 10 litres. The rest will either be drunk fresh or fermented to cider.
2012 is not going to be a bumper year (nowhere near the vast crops of 2009 and 2010) but I hope to end up with enough juice to last till well into 2013.
Let me know if you wish to come and say whether you need directions.

Dick. Hi, I will check with Emma (my wife) to make sure we are clear, but I would love to come with the kids, I suspect Emma would like to come too...
No need for any plastic bottles. Rubber gloves are good if you intend to handle apple pulp.
Thanks but we won't need it. I never pick fruit for juicing and I expect to have accumulated enough windfalls by Saturday. The juice is better the longer the fruit stays on the tree. I only pick apples for eating fresh and for cooking.
Hello,
I'd also like to come with my 5 yr old, possibly 3 yr old too if that ok?
Julie
That's fine. The garden is quite safe and well fenced. Have you been here before?
Hello Dick , That sounds great.
I will bring my daughter Frieda and baby son who will likely sleep in pushchair.
I've not ever been to your house, please could you message me your house number? Many thanks, what a nice offer!
Done.
Dear Dick,
We are trilled to be invited and we would love to help you on Saturday. So we will see you at 10.30, Andrew and Sonya, with our two girls Isobel and Eilidh.
I haven't forgotten that you would like some of our Comfrey plants for your garden so when I divide some I'll put them aside. They are wonderful as they flower at the exact time for the apple and pears blossom so are great for the bees.
See you Saturday - we know our way!
Love Sonya
Sounds lovely thanks Dick - but we are away this weekend. Thanks though!
Hi there
Is it okay if I come with my two daughters? One is a baby but my 4 year old would love to be involved.
Thanks
Lizzy.
