Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

The final steam excursion of the year is on Friday 9 Dec at Harringay GREEN LANES about 0850. The steam locomotive will start at Shoeburyness (true as of Wednesday morning) rather than, as in some previous excursions, be attached in West London .

The engine is now an LMS 'Black Five' and is named 'The Sherwood Forester' reflecting its years at the Great Central Railway. Not plain black like 'Sir Nigel Gresley', this has red, grey and cream 'lining' to improve its looks.

A 'Black Five' is a historically accurate locomotive for the Tottenham & Hampstead Joint Line because the LMS provided the bulk of the locomotive power for the line since 1923. While a medium powered locomotive, on the T&H, a 'Black Five' was practically in the 'super power' league and it was rare to see a higher powered engine.

Railtour organiser Steam Dreams have changed their train operator to hedge fund manager Jeremy Hosking's train company, so the train will be composed of newly restored carriages painted in BR's 1950s carmine and cream colours.
