Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Due to pass Harringay at about 0800 (departs KX at 0755).

This day trip from Kings Cross to Newcastle was intended for 'Tornado', which is still not yet ready following the mechanical failure back in April.

Instead the loco will again be 'Union of South Africa', on one of its last runs before it is permanently retired. The return (about 2200 at Harringay) is diesel hauled, by one of the 'Deltic' class which ran on the East Coast main line in the '60s and '70s.

Tour details here, live times here (outbound) and here.

I booked before Tornado's failure on the 'Ebor Flyer' (upon which I also travelled as far as Peterborough). I didn't cancel my booking because I also wanted to travel behind 'Deltic' No.9. Now I get my last trip behind 60009 'Union of South Africa' as well, a different No.9 in each direction!

I believe the bewhiskered gentleman by the cab window is John Cameron, the owner of 'Union of South Africa'.
