I used to love Turnpike Lane, back in the 50is There was a place called " Teds Amusment Arcade " and the Ritzs Pictures house. All along the Parade right up until Wood Green, there was all those Lovely Shops, Marks and Spencer's, Woolworths, British Home Stores and if my Memory serves me right, there was a " Play House ?? " and Watneys Pub. Then off up to " Ally Pally " What Great times I can recall of that area !!!!!!!!!!

Comment by Richard Woods on July 1, 2016 at 21:33: The young lady in the picture is crossing from outside number 58 or 56 and at that time or thereabouts the family living there were the Elliots. Mum and dad had been on the buses as I recall (cos I was a bit fond of daughter Patricia) but about this time they got out and took over a petrol station in Muswell Hill. To my chagrin Pat Elliot married (I think) a guy called Roger Wright and lived happily ever after. I did meet her again at a party in Crouch End in about 1963-5 but by then I was engaged and otherwise... well engaged! BTW for a short time Ron Moody - Fagin in Oliver - was a tenant of number 54 or 56 - I know cos I interviewed him there.

Comment by Paul Loke on July 4, 2016 at 21:33: Where the lady is crossing is where the " lolly pop lady" used to stand to show us kids across the road when going to school at North Harringay. Part way down on the right there was a stationers shop run by the Duncan Family, their son Gordon Duncan was a good friend - they moved away like many of us! Right down the bottom of the road on the right was our local dairy run by the Owens, they used to deliver milk and cream etc on a big hand pushed cart. I remember the whole area seemed to be very close and everybody seemed to know one another - happy childhood memories!

Comment by Richard Woods on July 4, 2016 at 21:56: It's just down from the alley to North Harringay School, close to which was Garrison bike and model shop. I delivered papers for the Duncans. And i bet you Paul moved away about 1964?
