It was the Gaumont Palace in my day!

Thanks Richard. Below are some 1930s images.

Watch old film footage of the cinema on YouTube with a wonderful clipped British Accented voiceover.

There used to be a school of dancing above the cinema and my mother worked as a cleaner there in the 70's.

Would be interesting to see what remains of interiors. I used to go to the Odeon in Wood Green and went to one of the Mayor For London's consultation events there a few years ago.

You will find some pictures from 2009 here [  http://www.arthurlloyd.co.uk/GaumontPalaceWoodGreen.htm  ]

when it was being converted for use as the Dominion Centre church, whose website with a few pictures is here   [  http://www.dominioncentre.org/  ]

It has been a listed building since 1990 at Grade II* so it is very well thought of in architectural terms.

Yes, I remember that grand old place.  Had real style in those days. And elegance. They don't make 'em like that no more !

I remember going to see 'Papillon' at the Odeon when they first divided it into a multi-screen. They hadn't quite sorted the sound insulation between the screens because at quiet tense parts of 'Papillon' we could hear Mickey Mouse "C'mon Pluto!". As a child I attended 'Saturday morning pictures' briefly before my patents got me swimming at Western Road baths, which probably saved me from a mis-spent youth :)

As a child, I spent more time gazing up at the surreal Art Deco balconies and ceilings than looking at the films.  I thought it was a real place.  I thought it was paradise.
