The Harringay branch of the Tottenham brigade became the first in England to adopt petrol motor traction in 1903, when the fire station was opened in Conway Road and equipped with a combined chemical fire engine, hose tender, fire-escape, and motor.
Below the early picture is an image of the same spot in Conway Road today.

What a great steam engine. Must have been a pig to drive.
As a kid, I always thought the M.C.C. fire engines in use in Tottenham, Hornsey & Wood Green until the 60s, always looked a lot better than the 'boring' L.C.C. London Fire Brigade ones in use in Hackney, & Stoke Newington. I think the code for Tottenham Engines was J25.
I lived here in the 1960`s and my daughter was born in the flat above in 1965. That was when this building belonged to the Middlesex Fire Brigade which was then taken over by the L.C.C. My husband served at Tottenham fire station from 1959 _1989
