If you've been on the site for a while, you'll know that I've nerded around a bit with the history of Harringay's cinemas, including adding a
rather dull Wikipedia article,
lots of pictures on the site and
a few posts.
So I'm delighted to be able to report that HoL member
Jeremy Buck has just sent me a copy of his new book,
Cinemas of Haringey.
Jeremy's professional research has turned up a picture of, and more info on, the cinema that used to stand on the corner of Wightman Road and Turnpike Lane. I hope he'll forgive me for reproducing that picture here:
So, there's a taster. It's a great book detailing the history of the 44 cinemas that used to stand around the borough. It's not on Amazon yet, but I'm sure Prospero's, The Big Green and the Hornsey Historical Society's shop all have copies. OR, support your local library and get a copy from there.
Ooh, yes and it's a special book for HoL since we're listed as a source. Thanks Jeremy.
